In Small Gestures So Huge Love Is Everywhere

Experimental, introspective and subtly-dynamic, James Klassen (aka. Tradition) releases In Small Gestures So Huge Love Is Everywhere on BlocksRC. The monotone songs focus on repetition and slight variation, leaving the listener’s ears continuously searching within the music. Borrowing recording queues from Phil Spektor’ wall of sound, the recordings are have a warm lo-fi feel. It is in the layers of vocals and acoustic guitar that the songs become interesting, giving curious life to simple and otherwise boring songs.

Reminiscent of Mazzy Starr or Brian Borcherdt, you might find the music a slight challenge to listen to; sad, slow and personal. But the honesty of James Klassen, through his music, is charming and caters to the personal connection that I require to appreciate any artist’s work.
