Army Girls’ got The Power

Army GirlsIf you have paid attention to Toronto’s young music community in the past 5 years, you would have noticed the frequent appearance of Carmen Elle. With the list of artists that she has worked including the The Cliks, Austra, Dance Yourself To Death, People You Know and Donlands and Mortimer, the girl has got more cameos under her belt than Missy Elliot (“yeah, yeah. yeah”).

For some, being a supporting musician cuts the mustard as far as a career goes. And for others, it’s a preparation for the big show. And so, fronting the duo Army Girls (along with drummer Andy Smith also of Heartbeat Hotel) Elle has been honing her craft to drive forward her own career. Working with such a diverse array of musicians, the self-taught high-school drop-out has acquired some serious chops on the guitar, a powerful and clear voice, and an engaging presence on stage. Influences ranging from jazzy to pop, simple to intricate, Army Girls are building up to the release of their first EP Close to the Bone. In true independent fashion, Army Girls has recently posted their first single for free download or streaming. The track is called The Power, and it shows of the dynamics of the a tight two-person team. Get it here:
